SURFACE PREPARATION & COATINGS

K&N Finishers are specialists in surface preparation and coating techniques. If you require assistance with deciding which approach best suits your project, we will use our experience to advise based on your specifications.

Many of our preparations require onsite work, with our fleet of vehicles and equipment we are able to service across Southern England.

We are experienced with thermal spraying, powder coating, stove enamelling, intumescent coatings, epoxy coatings and flooring, and wet spray finishing. See more details below or contact us for assistance with your project.

SERVICES & SOLUTIONS:

THERMAL SPRAYING

THERMAL SPRAYING

Coating by Thermal Spraying involves heating material in wire form to a molten or semi molten state and propelling it using a stream of gas or compressed air to deposit a layer on the surface of the parent component.

This process can be repeated many times allowing our technician to build up a series of layers. It is used as an alternative to galvanizing as it provides equivalent protection to steel along with a more desirable finish.

POWDER COATING

POWDER COATING

Powder coating is an advanced method of applying a decorative and protective finish to a wide range of materials and products that are used by both industries and consumers. The powder is applied with a spray gun and is electrostatically charged. The powder is then attracted to the grounded substrate and baked on.

Powder coated surfaces are more resistant to chipping, scratching, fading, and wearing than other finishes. Colour selection is virtually unlimited and colours stay bright and vibrant longer. K&N boasts numerous box ovens capable of holding lengths of up to 9m. The Portchester branch also has a line which is ideal for large batches.

STOVE ENAMELLING

STOVE ENAMELLING

This is a traditional form of wet paint coating applied cold but baked at 140 degrees Celsius to cure the coating giving a hard, durable, cosmetic finish. Items suited to this application include motorbike frames, shop signs and high quality furniture.

INTUMESCENT COATING

INTUMESCENT COATING

Intumescent coatings provide a high standard of finish, quality and reliability, they can be applied on or off-site and can be used on buildings requiring 30, 60, 90 and 120 minutes fire resistance.

Thin film intumescent coatings are manufactured from organic materials and are inert at low temperatures. They swell (or intumesce) to provide a charred layer of low conductivity foam when exposed to high temperatures This char layer reduces the rate of temperature rise in the steel and prolongs the steels load bearing capacity.

EPOXY COATING & FLOORS

EPOXY COATING & FLOORS

We apply epoxy coatings to steel, grp, aluminium as standard. Our site team applies epoxy coatings to floors as well as many other substrates and structures.

We can specify coating longevity to BS5493

WET SPRAYING

WET SPRAYING

We have a specialist team who work closely with our clients’ specifications and turnaround times to a very high standard on all forms of wet paint systems. Our Wet Spray services are available both on and off site in a choice of specifications and colours.
